Transition rates for some forbidden lines in Fe IV

Abstract:
Results from multiconfiguration Dirac-Fock (MCDF) and multiconfiguration Hartree-Fock (MCHF) with Breit and Breit-Pauli configuration interaction corrections, respectively, are presented for E2 and M1 forbidden transitions between levels of the three lowest quartet terms of Fe IV and the ground state . The former treats the relativistic effects more accurately whereas for the latter, more correlation can be included. The transition rates in both approximations are compared with values predicted by Garstang in 1958 and more recent semi-empirical values.
